December 17, 2004, 4:30 am Korea time I am in the airport in South Korea. That enormous flight after all time adjustments took 14.5 hours. Not too bad. Korea air is pretty confortable, more room and more confortable than the United Flight I took a while ago to Bangkok. Sabrina and I couldn't get seats together, but that's ok, I slept alot of the time anyway. The food was pretty good too. It was an interesting day. I started falling sick Tuesday night, I believe it is from the cold weather and having to use heat, it upset my throat for a few days. On the last night in DC, the sore throat was pretty bad, and on the last morning in DC, I was badly congested. Sabrina and I carried our 3 heavy suicases, full backpack and laptop case to the metro station, took that to a bus stop, took the bus to the airport, where we met 2 other Ph.D. students that I had met the previous night at the ICIS finale. We had a nice chat, then Sabrina and I left for NY. Our NYC flight was very short, but a little delayed. That was no problem, because our Korea flight didn't leave until 11:20. In the airpot we had lunch, and it became obvious that I was quite sick. Bad luck, I generally don't get sick often, however this has been twice in one season. I bought a big ass bottle of water and took it with me, they gave us lots of drinks, I made sure to get orange juice or grapefruit juice whenever I could. I even turned down the free beer and wine. I took a little nap, and woke up to go to the bathroom, where I blew my nose. There was a ton of nastey green junk.. my sinuses were stuffed... it was bad. But at least my throat felt better by that point. The Korean airport kicks ass. Its 4:30 and no one is here. There is an internet cafe set up for free, where we can use computers. I"m writing from one of those right now. I met a guy waiting for the plane that said that Korea is tring hard to make itself look all technical, so I give them 2 thumbs up on the internet cafes in the airport. We have another 4.5 hours to kill here. I've checked my grades and paid all my credit card bills online. I'll think of anything else I can do to kill the time here, it is nice to have internet, so I should take advantage of it. We don't plan to stay long in HK, we want to catch a boat straight off, go to Shen Zhen and get a hotel there for the night, before flying out for Changsha on the following day. More to come latter. |
